Tallahassee Community College’s Police Department is offering free Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) classes to women in the community.

R.A.D. emphasizes awareness, prevention, risk reduction, avoidance and basic hands-on defense training. It teaches a system of physical self-defense techniques and risk avoidance methods for women.

R.A.D. assists women in acquiring self-defense education in a relatively short period of time by providing short-term training opportunities in a progressive, building block format.

It is a 12-hour course with the last three hours being an optional application of self-defense techniques in a simulated encounter.

R.A.D. is open to all women in the community and is not a martial arts course.

The class will be held in the TCC Student Union Ballroom on March 31 and April 7 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Classes are limited to 12 students. Contact Sgt. Carrie Allen at allenca@tcc.fl.edu to register. Be sure to provide name, telephone number and email address.
