The Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More will hold “Faith, Food, Friday: God Squad” from 12:00-2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7. The event will be in O’Brien Hall at 900 W. Tennessee St.
Parochial Vicar Tim Holeda said many people attend the event, from Christians to non-believers. The event admits anybody for open discussion.
“This should be an interesting discussion,” said Holeda, who has attended the event since 2012. “It is polarizing, it is confrontational”.
The topic of this event is “Ben Franklin’s 13 Virtues To Change The World”. The event will discusses the virtues that develop character and discuss how people can improve in those areas.
In the past, “The God Squad” held discussions about abortion, Obamacare, race and more. The moderators guide the discussions and guests can voice their opinions.
Tallahassee Community College student Kayla Thompson said the event draws a lot of conversation and has allowed her to expand within her beliefs.
“It is like one big mural that everyone can paint on,” Thompson said. “The amount of people who attend compliments every discussion because it allows for endless conversing”.
Faith, Food, Friday has put on this event since 2011. Even though the event draws people of older age, college students are encouraged to come out, as they can relate to the topics as well.
The panel includes guest speakers Rabbi Romberg, Pastor Betsy Ouellette-Zierden, Pastor Derrick McGhee, Senior Pastor Gary Shultz and Tim Holeda.
The event is free but a guest can choose to purchase an RSVP lunch for $8, which comes with a salad, wrap and dessert. Parking is available on site with an extra lot offered.
