Erika Fornero-Monia is a first year international student at Tallahassee Community College from Italy. When she first moved to Tallahassee she was not pleased at all.
“When I first moved here I was so disappointed because it was boring. I hated it so much here, because there was nothing exciting in Tallahassee besides school.”
Fornero-Monia said she was envious of her fellow Italian foreign exchange students.
“The students in my program were going to places like Miami, Tampa, Orlando and other exciting cities in America, while I was stuck in little Tallahassee. I was so jealous of them because I had nothing fun to brag about.”
As time passed, Fornero-Monia started getting involved in the community more.
“The reason I was bored all the time was because I wasn’t trying to have fun. So I started putting myself out there and seeking out fun by participating in events that involved in the community.”
Fornero-Monia said she’s now happy to call Tallahassee home.
“I’m in love with Tallahassee, the community is so welcoming and nice. Although Tallahassee is small, I think that’s its greatest strength because everyone is like one big family here. I’m glad I can call this place my home.”
