Tangela Brown is a Financial aid and Loan Technician at Tallahassee Community College from Apopka, Florida. She moved to Tallahassee in the Fall of 1981 with her first husband who played football at Florida State University.
Brown said she assists students who have a financial hold on their account.
“I help students with financial needs by instructing them on the steps to take if their account has a hold for any reason regarding money,” she said.
When Brown initially relocated to Tallahassee she worked as a maid 40 hours a week with a salary of 3 dollars an hour. A family member then introduced her to data entry. This helped her obtain a job with the Department of Education where she made 4 dollars an hour.
Brown attributes her success in the role as a financial aid and loan technician to the positive feedback she gets from students she has helped through the years.
“I really do believe that I was strategically placed here and divinely too because I don’t have a college degree,” Brown said.
Brown enjoys working for TCC and finds the working rewarding.
“I like working at TCC better, I get a sense of fulfillment helping students who are in school to do what they are supposed to. I will go above and beyond for them depending on what their attitude is like,” she said.
