Tallahassee Community College’s “Sister to Sister” program has positively impacted female students by educating them on mental health, college success, and how to manage money.

Sister to Sister is a mentoring program that brings together women of color to make them feel like they have a family on campus. It promotes building connections and relationships with other women of color. Every semester this program looks for female students to join.

Sister to Sister Vice President, Courtney Eve, said that the program has helped her connect with different people and build a stronger relationship with her mentor.

“It really helped me a lot because I’m an introvert,” said Eve. “The program helped me open up around people… I love the sisterhood we have built.”

To join the program, female TCC students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and must be devoted to academic success.

Dawnasia Coleman is a second-year student at TCC. Coleman said her mentor has helped her throughout college by establishing a sense of direction, advice, and academic confidence.

“Staying in touch with my mentor outside of school keeps a balanced relationship,” said Coleman. “Having Dr. Brantley as my mentor helps me stay on track.”

Marsha Burton is

a second-year student at TCC who is a senator within the Sister to Sister Program. She promotes the entire Sister to Sister program, events, and meetings to new and recurring TCC students. Burton said each member is paired with a mentor to check up on them to give advice and support. Mentors can be faculty, administrators and other community members.

“We want to make other women of color feel like they have a family on campus,” said Burton. “So it’s definitely a good way to have everybody connected.”
