The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

Originally when I heard that Spring Break was going to be “extended” two weeks in order to self quarantine, I was excited, because I thought it would mean I had more time to go to the beach and see my friends. But, sadly, I was mistaken.

In my area (Hollywood, Fla.), the pandemic didn’t start to become extreme until the second week I was back home. Unlike the rest of the world’s supermarkets, mine still had toilet paper and other groceries left over. In true Florida fashion, we didn’t worry about this crisis until we had to.

About a week ago you wouldn’t even think the virus was even a thing and that’s how oddly normal life felt. Now it’s been five days since I’ve left my property and I’m going insane.

Both of my parents work in the healthcare industry and that requires them to work from home and my parents’ house isn’t big enough for five people (my parents, my 2 siblings and me) to live without issues.

Every day is an extremely different story and my parents are so inconsistent with their moods and I’m just trying to avoid the chaos at all cost.

Along with that I didn’t bring any house clothes from my apartment in Tallahassee, so I have to wear the ugly high school shirts I purposely left home and didn’t bring with me to college.

Online classes have never been a strong suit for me and I went from having none to having five and it makes me feel anxious for my academic future.

I’m 3 classes and a lab away from my A.A. and I was planning on taking those classes over the summer in order to transfer to FSU in the fall, but I don’t see that happening this summer.

Although I may complain a lot about my situation in this global pandemic, I’m grateful that those are my worries. I have a roof over my head, my annoying family surrounding me and food and clean water.
