The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

Usually, I’m not one of those people that notices when people cough or sneeze. I wash my hands, consider myself to be hygienic, and I am vigilant about my overall health. However now due to coronavirus, everyone notices the coughs. Before the curfews and mandates, when people were still outside, we all saw the looks from judging strangers when someone, or God forbid you, coughed.
The virus has changed the lives of many, and many more have altered life plans. I am just one of the many that fall into the latter category. My original plan was to finish my remaining credits over summer and transfer to Florida State University in the fall after finishing my second year at Tallahassee Community College.
However, now my plan has been put in limbo as TCC may not be offering in-person summer classes. I am not well suited for online classes and do not want to risk doing poorly in a class.
I know eventually I will get that diploma from FSU with my name on it, even if it takes an extra semester. We are all affected by this virus and can at least be at peace with my health. We all must face this new reality and hopefully, people can adapt and we can be back to normal soon.
