The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

The coronavirus has changed how we work, play and learn: Schools are closing, sports leagues have been canceled, and many people have been asked to work from home.

I don’t have a job right now because of the pandemic. Only one week into the quarantine, I find myself in a state of pessimism regarding life during a pandemic.

My days have blurred into Google Classroom assignments, hobby seeking, aimless searching on Netflix, and, on exceptionally boring days, existential contemplation. My parents are still working and, as an only child, I try my best to stay sane by blasting music and TV shows.

Other times, I call my friends to pass the time while doing school assignments. Even then, schoolwork seems increasingly pointless. Although we do have online school now, it is not the same as attending classes in-person.

Working from home is challenging because, I don’t mind admitting, my work habits from home are not the best. I am easily able to procrastinate at home and having class in bed is not the best idea.

Plus, I can no longer get the one-on-one help teachers provide, if needed. To say that this virus has completely changed my day-to-day living would be a gross understatement. I went from having things to do from 7:20 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. every weekday to absolutely nothing.
