The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of people across the globe, including college students. Schools and colleges have shifted classes online for the rest of the semester, graduation and other school activities have been cancelled and students’ academic plans have been affected. Many Tallahassee Community College students returned home, some students stayed in town, but all of them are doing their best to fulfill their academic requirements to finish out the semester despite the societal upheaval.

It was March 1 and my family and I were traveling home from a ski trip to Canada. As we waited in the Seattle airport for our flight to Jacksonville, my hometown, I read a news story on my phone. The story said the first person in the U.S. had died from Coronavirus in Seattle, about 30 miles north of where I sat.

I didn’t think too much of it and hoped our flight wasn’t delayed so I could make it back to Tallahassee that night. I attended classes at TCC the next day, just counting down the days for my first college Spring Break. Little did I know, but Coronavirus was already spreading across the U.S.

I packed to head home to Jacksonville for Spring Break and received an alert that the break would be extended due to the virus. My first thought was I would need more clothes as well as some swimsuits to hit the beach when I got back home.

After a few days at home, it was announced that all classes would be online for the rest of the semester. This is when I realized the seriousness of Coronavirus. I have been adjusting to my online classes and been pretty bored social distancing, but I hope this virus comes to a stop soon and not too many lives are affected by it.
