Many Tallahassee Community College students usually spend their Christmas vacations traveling with family and friends. However, this year a lot of students will be staying home with family due to COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends avoiding traveling and holding large gatherings over the holidays to help prevent the spread of the virus.

First-year TCC student Michael Sissine said it’s disappointing not being able to travel this year, but looks forward to spending Christmas with his family in Jacksonville.

“My family usually does a big ski trip each year,” said Sissine. “Unfortunately, we will be staying home this year, but I’m still happy I get to celebrate the holidays with them.”

Second-year TCC student Nicholas Ryno said he will be flying to Philadelphia where his family lives and is looking forward to the time off from school.

“My family is planning on staying home for Christmas this year,” said Ryno. “I’m just ready to relax with them and not have any schoolwork.”

Although many students will not be vacationing, second-year TCC student Dean Corless said he will be flying to Texas and Colorado during the holiday season.

“First we’re going to El Paso to visit a bunch of my relatives that live there,” said Corless. “Then we’re going to Vail to snowboard, and I’m super excited we still get to go with COVID happening.”
