Theatre TCC! will present six performances of “Almost, Maine” Oct. 7-17 in the Turner Auditorium. This will be Theatre TCC!’s first live performance since “Noises Off” on December 8, 2019.

All shows have been live-streamed since then because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Almost, Maine” attendees are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance themselves in the 490-seat auditorium.

TCC Theatre! program Director Eva Nielsen said both the cast and crew are excited about the upcoming performance. This excitement comes not only from hosting a live performance after so long but also from the play itself.

“It’s a really unusual show in the sense that you have eight actors playing multiple characters,” said Nielsen. “It’s cute, it’s funny, it’s charming and we have a really awesome cast.”

Cast members include Ryan Moore, Kori Pigott, Orian Ellis, Sean Macdonald, Joseph MacMichael, Amanda Holton, Kayla-Elizabeth Meyzen and Olivia D’Addio. Each cast member plays multiple roles.

“Almost, Maine” is a love story written by John Cariani that includes nine short plays set in a mythical town called “Almost, Maine.” The short plays “alternate beautiful, evocative prose with stutteringly awkward exchanges and often very funny (if sometimes predictable) sight gags,” according to a New York Times review of the play published in February 2014.

Cast member Ryan Moore said he thinks the play is “really cute” and it includes some really important takeaways, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think some lessons that it teaches is to, you know, really appreciate your partner, first off,” Moore said. “That everyone has, you know, different lives and everyone is going through a lot, so always just try to be mindful of what somebody else is going through.”

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 15-16 with a matinee show at 2 p.m. on Oct. 17. The box office opens one hour prior to the curtain call.

Admission for TCC students, faculty and staff is free with a TCC ID. General public tickets can be purchased in advance at www.tcc.fl.edu/theatretcc or at the door on the day of the show (cash and checks only). Ticket prices range from $7-$15.
