Tallahassee Community College students can keep themselves safe now by using the college’s new safety app called Eagle Safe. It allows students to easily contact TCC Campus Police and alert friends and family of possible dangers.
The app has several resources including a campus map, and emergency contact options for students to notify. TCC officials launched the app on September 8, 2021.
TCC Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Sherri Rowland said the Eagle Safe app was a high priority for the administration so students had a tool that they could download onto their phones to help keep them safe.
“I like to think of it as a “one stop” place for students to have the needed tools available 24/7 to help them be vital partners with us to keep them as safe as is reasonably possible,” said Dr. Rowland.
Chief West Hardin of TCC Campus Police said administration introduced the idea of the Eagle Safe app to the campus police.
“The safety app would be more user friendly and convenient to students,” Said Chief Hardin. “Eagle Safe would have more ways to access campus police and more ways to report.” He also added Eagle Safe is for more than for when a student is in trouble. It can be useful regarding potential school closures and weather updates.
In addition to safety, the app has a feature (under Support Resources) to easily email and call the TCC Counseling Center. Also, there is an option for contacting an academic advisor (under Academic Advising).
TCC safety app includes an option for the “Mobile BlueLight.” This feature triggers TCC campus police once you tap the button, it sends your location and even calls them so you can speak on the phone in real-time.
TCC’s students, faculty, and staff can find the app on Google Play Store and also Apple’s App Store.
