Tallahassee Community College offers many different clubs that are available for students to join. TCC Black Student Union President De’Asia Tanner spoke with the Talon about what the organization is about.
The reason that Tanner became President:
“I wanted to be the President of the Black Student Union because I believe that I can make a difference in every student’s life. I wanted African American students and people of color to have an atmosphere where they can be themselves.”
Tanner’s vision for the Black Student Union:
“My vision for the Black Student Union is for African American students and people of color to create unity and like each other, and I want them to be able to express their concerns and problems that they are facing on campus.”
Tanner’s view on how change could start:
“I believe TCC could better cater to the needs of African American students and people of color by hearing what we have to say as students. Which means letting BSU sit in conversations that we haven’t sat in to understand what we need. It’s very important that TCC understands that BSU have a long way to go to fight for change.
An event happening later in the semester:
“BSU wants to have a cookout, so we want to bring everybody together for a great cookout.”
Tanner explains how TCC students can get involved with BSU:
“The best way for students to become a member is to reach out to the Instagram page and we would add them to GroupMe. That way we will update them as much as possible about information which regards to BSU meetings, events, and our next meeting is September 28.” The Instagram page is @tcc_bsu_
