Florida A&M University accepts more transfer students from Tallahassee Community College than any other college. FAMU Enrollment Specialist Ryan Preatto spoke to the Talon about application deadlines as well as some resources for TCC students interested in becoming Rattlers.

Preatto speaks about the urgency of submitting an application.
“If you haven’t filled out the application, you’re probably going to end up running into late registration and it’s going to increase your fees.”

“I like to tell people that there is a deadline… I always start off by saying as soon as possible.”

Preatto speaks on how students could receive scholarships.
“We do have our own internal scholarships, the presidential scholarships. There are scholarships just for the FCC (Florida Community College) system that students are eligible for when they transfer into a four-year institution… We always share external scholarships as well because a lot of organizations partner with us to help you out with scholarships as well.”

Preatto explains what’s needed on a transfer application.
“As long as you have strong academics and you meet the FCS state requirements, you are accepted. We want to make the path as seamless and clear as possible to give more students the opportunity to go to college.”

Preatto speaks about FAMU’s transfer program.
“We have the Ignite program. So, while you’re still at your current institution you can join the program within the one that will attract your future AA degree. Once you receive your AA degree you can be admitted into a state university through our FCS 2+2 program.”

Preatto speaks about support groups for transfer students.
“We put you in touch with our Transfer Student Association and our Transfer Student Services through Ignite. Once you get there the support groups would help you out… Transfer students have had a week dedicated just for them the week before Homecoming.”
