Tallahassee Community College Student Resource Coordinator Kayla Dover created “TCC Chopped” to teach students how to make their own healthy food, and promote student resources such as Talon’s Market, which is a free on-campus marketplace for students experiencing food insecurity, or the lack of reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. She partnered with Bill Fredericks, a nutrition education specialist of Second Harvest, in order to teach students how to cook and eat healthy.
Tallahassee Community College student Keyan Powell gives a thumbs up to the camera after winning a cooking set at the “TCC Chopped” event on Sept. 14 in the Student Union. When he signed up for the class he didn’t anticipate the added bonus of winning free stuff. “I just saw the opportunity to experience a professional doing it live in front of my face as opposed to watching on video,” Powell said. “I thought it would be a nice experience to learn something new.”
