After A.J. Arellano served as a role model throughout high school on the football team, he decided he wanted to expand his potential and serve as one of the Tallahassee Community College ambassadors’ 10 students.

Arellano spends five hours a week working in the office to allow students get the experience on campus that they deserve. His goal is to allow students feel welcomed during their adjustment to college.

Arellano, who is a first-year TCC student from Miami, has impacted TCC in his role as student ambassador by giving new TCC students a positive introduction to the TCC community. He leads campus tours and attends sessions that allows students to get involved and meet fellow students.

Arellano said that being a student ambassador has allowed him to open up to meet new people and enjoys welcoming students to TCC with open arms. A.J. has the opportunity to reach out to students to make sure they stay connected with TCC.

“Two best things are meeting people from all over the place,” Arellano said. “It’s cool like meeting different ethnicities and different people with different backgrounds and their stories.”

The Tallahassee Community College Transfer Service website lists the ten student ambassadors and provides a short biography about each so student can feel more comfortable before meeting them.

“Our ambassadors are ready to guide you through our campus and help you learn about life as a TCC eagle,” the Transfer Service page said.

Margaret Bowman is the Director of Transfer Services at Tallahassee Community College who said Arellano is a great asset to the TCC Student Ambassadors program. Many families enjoy his tours and he always receives positive feedback from parents and students.

“He brings ideas to the office and to things that the ambassadors can do,” Bowman said. “He is very much engaged and seems to take his role as an ambassador very seriously.”
