Rylee French is a fourth year TCC/FSU student, and she lives in Tallahassee, Fla.
In the past, Rylee would never have considered herself as someone drawn to music. Unlike her peers in high school, she had no desire to download popular music apps like Spotify or Apple Music. Rylee often felt “disconnected” because of this— having a fear of being judged and people bullying her for her lack of interest.
However with age and growth, Rylee has come to a realization that music can be used as a “form of expression and confidence.” She has let go of her fear of judgment and has now come to find a love for many types of music. She would describe her current music taste as “indie” and “soulful,” but doesn’t limit herself to one specific genre.
With coming to enjoy music, Rylee has a newfound interest in learning new songs and artists. She has taken back her power and owns her music, sometimes going as far as singing along.
“It’s just like being around the wrong people who make you feel unseen and then finding those who understand and connect to you,” she said.
