Each year students enroll in JOU2440L to create another award-winning and amazing literary and art magazine — Eyrie. Professor of English, Nicolette Costantino has been teaching the class for years and has done a great job in doing so.

The Eyrie is a literary and art magazine with pieces of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, art, and photography carefully hand-picked from a long list of student submissions to have the best possible final product with beautiful and captivating images and writing.

The magazine consists of the editing team and the design team. The editing team keeps in contact with the creators of the pieces. They also revise and ensure that the chosen submissions are ready for publication.

The design team is in charge of crafting a unique and creative magazine that properly showcases the works within. These team members come up with different design layouts, formatting, details, and ways to incorporate a chosen theme throughout with the use of Adobe InDesign. Every detail gets accounted for, going down to page numbers, fonts, colors, and going through different rounds of votes to get a page that everyone is happy with.

Most students are on both teams and help edit and design the magazine.

This year, the lead editor is Blair Bowers and the lead design editor is Rylee French. The two have spent hours producing this year’s edition. Layout Editor Peyton Mears also put their heart and soul into this year’s magazine by designing the bulk of the content over Spring Break. The class has worked and put their all into this year’s volume 43.

Professor Nicolette Costantino and Eyrie staff gather their ideas for the 2024 Eyrie magazine unveiling.

Bowers said she was very excited for this year’s unique edition. “I feel like it is nice to have that celebration after a long semester of working on it. … just being able to show everyone how hard you’ve worked and being so proud of it,” Bowers said.

French said that she’s especially eager for the theme and fun festivities of the unveiling. “I’m excited for my parents to see it because I have some things in it that they’ve never read.” French said.

This year’s Eyrie unveiling will be held at 7 p.m. on April 17 in the FPAC lobby. The event is free. Refreshments will be provided and copies of the Eyrie will be handed out.
