The Talon’s content is produced by students enrolled in JOU2420L, a course offered at Tallahassee State College that meets once a week in Fall and Spring semesters.

Student staffers write stories and take photographs, produce video and audio content, and post on social media. Staffers are also eligible for the Talon scholarship.

Student journalism is essential for many reasons. It gives young people a voice, allowing them to share their views and tell important stories. Through writing and reporting, students learn critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills. It also helps them understand and engage with current events and issues.

Student journalism can uncover stories that might be overlooked by mainstream media. By participating, students gain confidence and a sense of responsibility. In short, student journalism is a powerful tool for education and democracy.
